For 2012 Hyundai has announced several updates to the Genesis luxury sedan, including the addition of an 8-speed automatic transmission and direct-injection for the V6 model, taking horsepower up 43 ticks to 333-hp.

But the big news is the addition of a new 5.0 R-Spec model with the same 8-speed transmission, but with that extra displacement and the addition of direct-injection helping to pump out 429-hp at 6400 rpm and 376 lb-ft of torque at 5000 rpm. An increase of 44-hp and 43 lb-ft of torque over the standard 4.6-liter unit, fuel economy is only down slightly to 16/25-mpg.

The 5.0 R-Spec models also get 19-inch wheels, dark chrome headlight inserts as well as specific tuning for the transmission, suspension and steering.

As for the rest of the lineup, along with some updated bodywork, 3.8-liter models get a larger rear sway bar to improve handling and all models get upgraded brakes.

Pricing for the R-Spec model has yet to be announced.
